What is Subnetting?

Subnetting is the process of dividing a network into smaller sub-networks (subnets). It allows efficient use of IP addresses and improves network performance by reducing broadcast traffic.

CIDR Notation

CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) notation expresses the subnet mask as a suffix, like /24. The number represents how many bits are used for the network portion. For example, /24 means the first 24 bits are the network address, leaving 8 bits for hosts (256 addresses, 254 usable).
